Catholic Social Teaching

As a school, we initially introduced children to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching focusing on one principle each term, using CAFOD resources to support learning.

Some examples of our CST work in school:

Whole School Writing Journey

Our whole writing journey was based around the book 'Speak up'. Children linked this to Catholic Social Teaching and spoke out about many things including the destruction of Coral reefs, climate change and the need to welcome refugees. They wrote information texts, letters, reports and instructions. The work produced by the children is fabulous and is displayed proudly in the school.

Stewardship

The children have had great fun watching our ducklings hatch and grow. They have cared for the ducklings, making sure they have the opportunity for a duck and dive in a makeshift pond.

Preferential Option for the Poor

As a school we gather our Harvest to support the local community. As well as including the donations at a special harvest Festival Mass at St John's Church, our 'Angels in action' group visited our local food bank to see what happens when we donate food, how donations are sorted and distributed.

Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is at the identified across our curriculum and permeates our daily life. CST is embedded through a variety of subjects, not just RE.

In 2024-2025, we looked particularly at the CST of Participation.

This year 2025-2026, we are focussing on working for The Common Good.
